Doxycycline is an effective treatment for a number of infections brought on by susceptible strains of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria as well as some other microorganisms.
Doxycycline can be prescribed in following conditions:-
- Respiratory tract infections
- Pneumonia as well as lower respiratory tract infection caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Klebsiella pneumonia
- Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia
- Treatment of chronic bronchitis, sinusitis
- Urinary tract infections
- Infection caused by bacterial strain of Klebsiella species, Enterobacter species, Escherichia coli, Streptococcus faecalis
- Sexually transmitted diseases
- In treatment of infection caused by Chlamydia trachomatis
- Uncomplicated urethral, endocervical or rectal infections
- Non-gonococcal urethritis (caused by T- mycoplasma)
- In the treatment of chancroid, granuloma inguinale and lymphogranuloma venereum
- As an alternative drug in the treatment of gonorrhoea and syphilis.
- Dermatological infections
- In the treatment of acne vulgaris
- Ophthalmic infections
- In the treatment of trachoma
- Rickettsial infections
- Rocky Mountain spotted fever, typhus group, Q fever, Coxiella endocarditis and tick fevers
- Other infections
- Psittacosis, cholera, meliodosis, leptospirosis
- Doxycline capsules also prescribed as a prophylaxis in Scrub typhus, travellers’ diarrhea, leptospirosis.
